  • Temporary fire station built in tin shed and offered rent free by Lewis Furr on Tryon Rd.

  • Wake County Fire Commission establishes a four-mile radius as Swift Creeks Fire District and $100/month support.

  • Fire station moves to 6115 Holly Springs Rd. leased for 18 years from Mr. Earl Franklin.

  • NC Fire Rating Bureau approves reduction of fire insurance rates in Swift Creek Fire District.

  • Stanford Mizelle becomes Fire Chief.

1962:
  • Construction of permanent fire station approved by Board of Directors.

1963:
  • L.D. Warner becomes Fire Chief.

1969:
  • Apparatus received: 1969 Chevy brush truck.

1971:
  • SCFD budget gets started by support from tax base of Swift Creek residents. $0.05 from every $100 of tax dollars of those in the district is budgeted by the County to SCFD.

1976:
  • Received apparatus: 1976 Ford / Pierce pumper.

1983:
  • Current fire station was built at 5825 Tryon Rd.

1984:
  • Received apparatus: 1984 Chevrolet 2500 Gallon Tanker.

1987:
  • Received apparatus: Pierce Dash pumper, named Engine 3.

1988:
  • Harold Estes becomes Fire Chief.

1990:
  • Received apparatus: 1990 Chevy 3500 brush truck.

1991:
  • Robert Estes becomes Fire Chief.

1992:
  • Received apparatus: 1992 International/E-One Tanker, 1500 gallon capacity. Formerly Tanker 2.

1993:
  • Began First Responder services in the fall of 1993.

1994:
  • Edward Brinson becomes Fire Chief.

1999:
  • Received apparatus: 1999 Pierce Dash pumper, formerly served as Engine 1.

2000:
  • Received apparatus: 1999 Peirce Saber,  serves as current Rescue 1.

2001:
  • SCFD starts offering extrication services.

  • Received apparatus: 2001 Ford F250 brush truck, formerly served as Brush 4.

  • Sold 1990 Chevy 3500 brush truck.

2003:
  • Scott McCollum becomes Fire Chief.

2006:
  • Received apparatus: 2006 Tanker, formerly served as Tanker 6.

  • Sold 1984 EEI Tanker 6 to Percy Johnson Inc. in Garner, NC.

2007:
  • Received apparatus: 2006 Pierce Contender, now serves as current Engine 3.

  • Sold 1987 Pierce Dash Engine 3 to Kenansville Fire Department in Kenansville County, NC.

2008:
  • Bryant Woodall becomes Fire Chief.

2013:
  • Line of duty death of Swift Creek Member, Jon Schonderlmayer.

2014:
  • Sold 1992 International/E-One Tanker 2 to Woodsdale Fire Department in Person County, NC.

  • Apparatus received: 2013 International/Rosenbauer Tanker, currently serves as Tanker 2

2016:
  • Mike Gerke becomes Fire Chief.

2017:
  • Improved fire district rating to 4/9E.

  • 2006 KME Tanker 6 transferred to Northern Wake Fire Department in Wake County, NC.

2018:
  • Apparatus received: 2017 Ford F250, now serves as Car 3.

  • 2001 Ford F250 Brush Truck 4 sold to Treutlen County, GA.

2021:
  • Apparatus received: 2021 Pierce Impel, now serves as current Engine 1.

2022:
  • Old Engine 1 sold to Antioch Fire Department in Johnson County, NC.

2023:
  • Improved fire district rating to 2/9E.

Our History

History
1960:
  • Swift Creek Fire Department is established.

  • First Board of Directors are elected.

  • Chief Joe Womble is elected as first fire chief.

  • Received apparatus: 1961 Chevrolet 70 series acquired as first fire apparatus and equipped with a 500 gallon/minute pump and 500 gallon tank.

  • Received apparatus: 1946 Chevrolet 1½ ton acquired from the Pine State Creamery for $150 and modified with a 1000 gallon tank (donated from the NC Butane company).

  • Received apparatus: 1943 Dodge ¾ ton acquired and equipped with a 50 gallon/minute pump and 300 gallon tank.
