Chief Joe Womble is elected as first fire chief.

Received apparatus: 1961 Chevrolet 70 series acquired as first fire apparatus and equipped with a 500 gallon/minute pump and 500 gallon tank.

Received apparatus: 1946 Chevrolet 1½ ton acquired from the Pine State Creamery for $150 and modified with a 1000 gallon tank (donated from the NC Butane company).

Received apparatus: 1943 Dodge ¾ ton acquired and equipped with a 50 gallon/minute pump and 300 gallon tank.
